New Mom

Monday, 16. January 2006 8:14

Thinking about Eve as a new mom. Have you ever thought how it must have been for her? Here was this little baby, the first in this whole world. He was certainly unique, there was no other to compare with. Do you suppose Eve and Adam also, looked at him with wonder. How amazed they must have been at his learning to walk and talk. They certainly must have loved this adorable little fellow. His baby wonder at all of his new experiences must have delighted them. And through all of this, there was no other mom for Eve to share with.
I think also, of how it must have broke her heart when Cain killed Abel. She knew if she had not taken of the forbidden fruit this would not have happened. And then God sent Cain away. As parents we are concerned with out children through all of our lives. It is not just the parent with the child still in the house.

Job

Monday, 9. January 2006 21:00

How often we read something in the Bible and just scan it without really thinking about it.
Job 1:8 And the LORD said unto Satan, “Hast thou considered my servant Job, . . . .
Thinking about Job, he was very wealthy, the Bible tells us he had 7,000 sheep, 3,000 camels, 500 yoke of oxen, 500 she asses, and a very great household. He also had 7 sons and 3 daughters.
How many servants would be needed to care for 7,000 sheep? Would 1 shepherd be able to watch and care for 100 sheep? That would be 70 shepherds for 70 groups of sheep. Most likely it would be 4 shepherds for each herd, making 280 shepherds. How many servants for the 3,000 cmaels? Could one servant handle 30? Most likely it would be 15 or 20, for a total of 100 camel herders. The five hundred yoke of oxen would be at least 1,000 oxen, but it could be 4 oxen for a yoke. If we figure 1,000 oxen, he would need perhaps 50 servants for them. And for the 500 Donkeys, (she asses) another 50 servants.
Adding these up we come up to 480 servants, but he would have needed house servants, and servants to take care of gardens, and harvest grains and other food. His 10 children had their own houses and there would be servants connected to their homes. Plus many and perhaps most of the servants may have families that they would need to care for as well.
With out too much imagination Job could have had a small community of 1 to 2 thousand people, or more, that he was in charge of.
Job must have been a very strong man in his faith to lose all of that and then say “The LORD gave and the LORD hath taken away, blessed be the name of the LORD.”
We can certainly take an example from Job when we get a flat tire or some other little problem.

Still Learning

Monday, 9. January 2006 20:43

Computers are not my area of expertise, actually I have no area of expertise, I just sort of blunder along. Recently I thought I needed to make space in my blog and so deleted several entries. One of my daughters excels in computer expertise, she let me know that was a Boo-Boo. Kinda like “Oops!” I may redo some of the items, and then I might not. If you are one of the senior folks who, like me, don’t really understand all of this, please be encouraged. At least we are trying. I have a brother who bought a computer, he has children to help him learn, and this was so he could learn to use email. I’ve never heard from him accept by snail mail and he no longer mentions his computer.
